Private Apartment
- Location:
- Kensington, West London
- Value:
- £420,000
The £420,000 conversion of a residential apartment to five offices is yet another project in a listed property to be undertaken by FWA. Listed, historic buildings demand care and respect to preserve their beauty and character; when working on such properties, the quality of work must be outstanding.
At this Grade I listed building we have undertaken a major conversion of a former residential unit into self-contained offices and studio accommodation for start-up businesses.
The Mechanical and Electrical systems have been entirely overhauled, with the installation of a new boiler and water tanks, along with a rewiring of the building incorporating upgrades to existing circuits to facilitate revised layouts. A number of valuable, antique light fittings were refurbished and then carefully reinstalled. A full catering-specification kitchen has been installed for events held at the venue, along with two smaller kitchenettes for occupants to use.
A sympathetic refurbishment was also carried out to the fabric of the building, retaining period features whilst offering further long-term protection, including a full external redecoration. Internally, along with moves and changes to the layout, existing wooden flooring was restored, new vinyl flooring installed, repairs made to coving and cornices before a full high-quality redecoration completed the high specification finish.
Typical of the pressures placed on refurbishment programmes, this project had an extremely tight schedule of works to ensure the availability of the venue for a significant function. Once again, we have been entrusted to deliver a modern and effective refurbishment, regenerating a building for future use.
